Give A Little Listen 5

This weeks special: FILM SOUNDTRACKS… Which ended up just being film recommendations.

Yaaaay.

1. Good Bye Lenin! – Yann Tiersen

Probably more recognised for his work on the Le Fabuleux Destin d’Amélie Poulain soundtrack, Yann Tiersen composed an absolutely AMAZING soundtrack for Good Bye Lenin! (if you haven’t watched this film, I suggest you drop everything you’re doing now, find a copy, and watch it. Watch the hell out of the film.) The soundtrack is sad and hopelessly beautiful.

2. Garden State

Oh, you all knew I was going to [...]

Give a Little Listen 4

The Swell Season

You may remember them from the film Once, the main characters played by Glen Hansard (of The Frames) and Marketa Irglova have formed The Swell Season (and are dating – cute). They’ve just released a new album called The Strict Joy, and it’s really good. So if you liked the film once, the band the Frames, or even the upcoming cheesy one-with-nature image, you’ll like them.

Tegan and Sara

They’ve just released a new album that I can’t seem to get a hold of despite the fact [...]

Give a Little Listen 3

Sorry this is a day late. My flatmates and I had a halloween party yesterday so much of the day was spent last minute shopping (queues were horrendous!), running errands, decorating, getting into costumes and what not.

The Brent Flood

I saw them live a week or so ago, and they were AMAZING. The music was good, and they were good performers. I am also in love with their lead singer (okay, not really).

The Brent Flood – Katy McCain

Lights and Sounds

Saw them at the same gig (The [...]

Give a Little Listen 2

Okay, so I haven’t realy be listening to new music, so I’m going to feature just oldish indie music (which I guess defeats the whole idea?). But if you haven’t heard of these bands then you should give them a listen because they are brilliant.

1. Rilo Kiley

Rilo Kiley is just really easy to listen to. The band itself is still active, though you shoul dnote that more recently the lead singer, Jenny Lewis, has been putting out her own albums (once with the Watson Twins, brilliant, and the second as a purely solo venture). You may know [...]

Give a Little Listen 1

I’m going to try and do this every saturday.

1. The Silent Years

The Silent Years is absolutely amazing. I went through a faze of only listening to them and I was very content. Their most recent album (The Globe) is definetely the best out of the two albums, and the EP (Stand Still Like a Hummingbird) is definitely worth a listen.

Madame Shocking – The Silent Years (The Globe)

2. Sunset Rubdown

Dragonslayer is actually such a good album and I started listening to it for one reason only: Apollo and The Buffallo [...]

Tiësto’s ‘Kaleidoscope’ – Review

So if you recall I went and pre-ordered this badboy when I was gushing over Tegan and Sara’s upcoming CD and book (which I would preorder if I had the money).

I have to say upfront that I’m not a big Tiësto fan, but ordered this because of the artists and names featured in this album. I know I did the right thing now because I’m seriously enjoying this album.

Let’s try a new approach to reviewing albums – song by song!

Monsters of Folk

So I’m a big, big, BIG fan of the indie folk revival and today I got my pre-ordered ‘Monsters of Folk’ CD. And I think it’s great (I think I should make it known that I will probably only talk about albums that I love because I will only buy albums that I love… And that I find most things fairly lovable.

Conor Oberst, Mike Mogis, M. Ward, Yim Yames

So the band itself consists of Conor Oberst – himself quite well known, but also his work with Bright Eyes, Mike Mogis – also of Bright Eyes, [...]

Kim recommends: “Aim and Ignite” by fun.

I feel that since I’m not very knowledgeable about music, I can’t really talk about it. So I’m going to try and keep this short and sweet.

This album was actually released a while ago but I only just got it in the mail (the summer is a complicated process of having to wait until I’m in the UK before I can buy anything – okay, not so complicated).

fun. is a new band formed by Nate Ruess of The Format, and features Andrew Dost from Anathallo and Jack Antonoff from [...]
