Bon Iver in Usher Hall

20111023-100100.jpg

Those of you who know me, and I’m going to assume it’s all of those reading this blog, will know that Bon Iver is my favourite band. Perhaps the only band I can say that I honestly love whenever people ask me about my taste in music.

I discovered Bon Iver in the Hong Kong HMV in Causeway Bay shortly after For Emma, Forever Ago was released in 2008. I was walking around and saw a band I was familiar with in one of the CD players. For the life of me I can’t remember what band it was, [...]

DISAPPOINTED

I’m getting pretty annoyed by how much gigs cost in Hong Kong. I’m seeing Bon Iver in October (22nd! BOOYAH), and that cost me 20 pounds. To see Elbow tomorrow in Hong Kong at Kitec (WORST VENUE EVER) will cost around 40 pounds. Tickets to see 30 Seconds to Mars next week will cost between 38 and 54 pounds depending on whether you want seated or free standing. Red Hot Chili Peppers in early August will cost between 30 and 70 pounds also depending on where you’re wanting to be seated. Friendly Fires in mid August is also costing [...]

So psyched about this

boniver

So just a couple of days ago I preordered Bon Iver’s next album, entitled Bon Iver. That’s out 21 June.

Part of me wants to go completely cray-cray on you now and declare that the release date of Bon Iver being so close to my birthday is clearly a sign. But I don’t want to sound like a crazy person. So of course, I won’t say that. I’ll just think it.

But look at that cover art! Gorgeous.

Also very exciting, is that Adele, Rosie & I are going to be [...]

The Whitest Boy Alive at Tango, Beijing

I didn't take this photograph. Nor did this happen in Beijing. But something very similar did.

All those in HK I suggest you go on see the Whitest Boy Alive on Thursday (17th).

They had quite a few technical problems/synthesizer problems/disagreements with the lighting guy, but it all worked out in the end and they were amazing. Actually the synthesizer not working should have been devastating but Daniel Nentwig is an amazing keyboardist, and I don’t think it detracted from the show in any way.

I also didn't take this photograph of Erlend Øye, and I'm going [...]

Just a Heads Up

Just a heads up in case you’ll be in HK, MGMT are performing at Star Hall at KITEC (formally HITEC) in Kowloon Bay on the 30th March. I have the sinking suspicion they’ll be sold out because everyone hopes they play “kids”.

What’s absolutely amazing is that the support is going to be French Horn Rebellion.

This Moment- French Horn Rebellion from Harry Fellows on Vimeo.

And it’s really rare that HK get two great acts. You can get your tickets at www.hkticketing.com or any of the HK Ticketing Outlets.

ALSO actually the Whitest Boy Alive is performing [...]

Happy Valentines Day!

Or more importantly,

恭喜發財

Happy Chinese New Year! I hope the Year of the Tiger brings you good fortune!

I’m starting off the new lunar year by watching Vampire Weekend perform at the Edinburgh HMV Picturehouse! Yay!

Edit I can also now proudly say that this is the 100th post for the site, and we’ve had over 1,000 views! Chances are the 1,000 views are due to 10 people, but that’s a-okay with me!

Thank you all! And here’s for a better and more exciting year ahead!

Peace [...]

Gigs and shiet.

Is it just me or does Edinburgh seem to be getting better gigs this year? Or at least, is Edinburgh getting more gigs that I want to see? Or maybe I’m just more active in finding out about who’s coming to Edinburgh? I don’t know!

Anyways, still the biggest disappointment of my life time is missing Bon Iver playing at the Queen’s Hall during Fresher’s Week last year because I was too scared to ask anyone to go with me.

THE BANE OF MY EXISTENCE: my awkwardness and shyness. It renders me practically useless at times.

The worse thing [...]
