This photo was a bit hastily taken but it was the closest I could get to (in Hong Kong) what I think Hemingway was after. The café is called Café Lavande and can be found tucked away at G/F, 4 Prince’s Terrace, Mid-Levels.

After staying along the Seine for over a month, I noticed that all of the boats had one thing in common: gardens. Each canal boat had a garden ranging from the miniature jungle on the tiny Dutch fishing boat to the two lone shrubs on that guy’s boat. In an attempt to bring every little part of Paris back home with me, I’ve started my own miniature garden on my previously inhabitable terrace. I think between both Kim and I, we have adopted enough hobbies to generate one middle-aged woman. Gardening: Me Knitting: Kim Baking: Both Watching bad crime [...] 16 June, 2011 at 4.19 am
Will do a few big updates on places I visited in the next week, though I really should have done them awhile ago. For now I’ll just write about something that’s been bothering me for the past 12 hours. When I say bothering me, I don’t mean some personal issue but SOMETHING IS LITERALLY MAKING SCRATCHY NOISES all night long in my closet. No euphemism or metaphor intended here. My closet is now wide open but still, there’s this noise that sounds like a little badger digging away, sometimes it stops like it’s resting, and then starts again just [...] 8 June, 2011 at 5.15 am
![]() Sorry for the lack of posts lately. Anne’s excuse is that she’s having fun in Greece. Meanwhile I was distracted by the loss of my wallet and then the fact that this year is now coming to an end. This basically means that too much food has been eaten in the past week. Last Years Dragon Boat Festival at Stanley Beach, Hong Kong Monday was Dragon Boat festival (端午节 duānwǔ jié) and the plan was to head to Houhai to watch the Dragon Boat races. This ended up being very different from the typical experience in HK as [...] 18 March, 2011 at 3.52 am
On Sunday I went on a trip to tuen mun to have dinner with Charles, my sensai of feel-bad food. Last time we made burgers with patties fried with bacon and cheese, this time we 1-upped ourselves with burritos.
Here’s a photo of me hugging it out with Milo, Charles’ dog. Milo looks kind of bored, probably because I was rubbing his face around prior to the hug as a sign of compassion. Close up and personal with extreme tastiness. A mcflurry has never looked so pretty! In other news, I had my first hip hop [...] 13 March, 2011 at 1.40 am
Just a heads up in case you’ll be in HK, MGMT are performing at Star Hall at KITEC (formally HITEC) in Kowloon Bay on the 30th March. I have the sinking suspicion they’ll be sold out because everyone hopes they play “kids”. What’s absolutely amazing is that the support is going to be French Horn Rebellion. This Moment- French Horn Rebellion from Harry Fellows on Vimeo. And it’s really rare that HK get two great acts. You can get your tickets at www.hkticketing.com or any of the HK Ticketing Outlets. ALSO actually the Whitest Boy Alive is performing [...] 25 February, 2011 at 4.57 pm
I’m supposed to be studying for my wine exam but instead I’ve been surfing Tumblr. I didn’t realize it was a thing to post pictures of models as inspiration for losing weight. It’s actually the most disgusting use of a blogging platform I’ve ever seen. I thought blogging was all about being an individual an’ shiet. In other news, my right foot is undergoing a process of modern-day foot binding because a size 38 is only the perfect size for one foot. Nobody can tell if I try not to limp. 9 February, 2011 at 8.12 am
I’m getting incredibly frustrated with Apple right now. Don’t get me wrong, I love my macbook, and the launch of the app store has meant I was able to get iWork without having to pay an extortionate amount at one of the mac-oriented stores here (since we still don’t have our own Apple store this means a considerable mark up in price). Now because my wallet got stolen and I need to reissue by UK debit card I had to change the address listed with the bank to my HK address (so they could send me the new card… [...] 6 February, 2011 at 8.43 am
I’ve been slow with new years resolutions, so I’ll make the resolutions according to the Chinese calendar. 1) No carbs chocolate more stupid resolutions. I went to Chris’ house for CNY dinner last night, the email his mom sent out contained details for the dress code “red or Chinese traditional”. Panic. Look in the wardrobe, everything is either a hideous shade of maroon or is a full on cheung sam which I’ve only worn twice because it’s so ridiculously over the top. Settle for the knitted Shanghai Tang top that was bought 2 years ago and is now tiny on me. [...] 28 January, 2011 at 12.10 pm

Look at the awesome glasses I got when I went to the Hong Kong Museum of Art today! Actually they’re the pupil less eyes of a sculpture so they’re pretty fucking creepy to be honest. Though sadly I didn’t actually go to the exhibition they were for -the Touching Art Louvre’s Sculptures in Movement. There were far too many highschool students feeling up the statues for me to take part. |
