Kim’s comments are standard Anne’s comments are italicised

Well after Anne strongly hinted, I thought I’d write about our weekend in Edinburgh. Though I technically think Anne should be writing this entry since I, you know, live in Edinburgh? Nothing we did was new to me.

OH WELL.

Hi.

Friday 28th October

After spending the entire day helping out at an East Asian art conference, I emerged from the Student Union, blinking at the glaring light of day, to pick up Anne from a Costas near the Edinburgh train station. (I think that was quite a poetic sentence)

It [...]

Bon Iver in Usher Hall

20111023-100100.jpg

Those of you who know me, and I’m going to assume it’s all of those reading this blog, will know that Bon Iver is my favourite band. Perhaps the only band I can say that I honestly love whenever people ask me about my taste in music.

I discovered Bon Iver in the Hong Kong HMV in Causeway Bay shortly after For Emma, Forever Ago was released in 2008. I was walking around and saw a band I was familiar with in one of the CD players. For the life of me I can’t remember what band it was, [...]

The Beauty of Sadness

Last night we watched L’Illusionniste, an animated drama directed by Sylvain Chomet and based on a script written by mime, director and actor Jacques Tati in 1958. The story revolves around a magician who meets a girl in rural Scotland who believes that he is a real magician, and how they impact on each others lives. What makes L’Illusionniste so beautiful is that it’s a very sad film. Apparently Tati wrote the script as an open letter to his estranged daughter and the film reflects an exhaustive and complicated father-daughter relationship.

This probably makes no sense

But I felt compelled to post something, and all I’ve got is what I wrote for my spoken test. Haha. Cheap.

Gigs and shiet.

Is it just me or does Edinburgh seem to be getting better gigs this year? Or at least, is Edinburgh getting more gigs that I want to see? Or maybe I’m just more active in finding out about who’s coming to Edinburgh? I don’t know!

Anyways, still the biggest disappointment of my life time is missing Bon Iver playing at the Queen’s Hall during Fresher’s Week last year because I was too scared to ask anyone to go with me.

THE BANE OF MY EXISTENCE: my awkwardness and shyness. It renders me practically useless at times.

The worse thing [...]
