I couldn’t find a photo with both Kim and I in the picture looking vaguely attractive so here’s a photo of the two of us in separate photos with the same object..

This is also the first time I’ve used the gallery tool on this blog.

I’m sitting at my gate at Beijing Capital Airport waiting to board a flight to Hong Kong. I’m surviving on one hour of sleep (3.30-4.30am) thanks to the fact that I just stuffed my face with a grande ice lemon tea and tomato and mozarella ciabatta (my first meal proper meal in about 20 hours – more on that in a bit). I’m also in a lot of trouble with my mother because I forgot to bring my phone out to the festival yesterday and only just realised that my phone has run out of credit. I don’t want [...]

Sorry for the lack of posts lately. Anne’s excuse is that she’s having fun in Greece. Meanwhile I was distracted by the loss of my wallet and then the fact that this year is now coming to an end. This basically means that too much food has been eaten in the past week.
Last Years Dragon Boat Festival at Stanley Beach, Hong Kong
Monday was Dragon Boat festival (端午节 duānwǔ jié) and the plan was to head to Houhai to watch the Dragon Boat races. This ended up being very different from the typical experience in HK as [...]

Sorry for recycling footage, I just felt like I needed to start every entry with a video now. And I guess I really didn’t.
But here is the very belated entry about the end of my trip to Gansu, which ended over a month ago! Shame on me. And I was doing so well up until this entry.

And so here continues the summary of my travels through Gansu and Qinghai province. We begin with a video of monks playing basketball in Xiahe, Gansu. Sorry it’s such a shit angle I was very far away and on top of a hill, so basically it’s a Where’s Wally but with Yellow Hat monks… playing basketball. They look like they’re pretty good though.

(The song is “Canalfish” by A Sunny Day in Glasgow)
We had two days off for Qingmingjie, and so instead of going away for a long weekend, I skipped 8 days of class and went on a 12 day journey around Gansu province. I’m so pleased I went and definitely don’t regret skipping so much class (actually I think I’m regretting coming back because I am really not looking forward to starting classes again tomorrow).
I’m going to try and tell you what happened day by day, and this will take a while so click on for information and photos of the FIRST FOUR DAYS.

Beijing Zoo, July 2007
Okay, so Anne is in Florence right now so I don’t think she’ll be blogging any time soon, unless it’s to make everyone super jealous about her awesome European lifestyle. But we have something planned so that you guys can get a little idea of what we’re doing with our lives.
I’m probably heading off to Gansu & maybe Qinhai on Saturday for about 10-12 days (skipping 8 days of class… ). So that’s the beginning of April sorted. My mother’s coming to visit over Easter weekend, which is also Tsinghua’s centenary, woot! (I hear [...]

I didn't take this photograph. Nor did this happen in Beijing. But something very similar did.
All those in HK I suggest you go on see the Whitest Boy Alive on Thursday (17th).
They had quite a few technical problems/synthesizer problems/disagreements with the lighting guy, but it all worked out in the end and they were amazing. Actually the synthesizer not working should have been devastating but Daniel Nentwig is an amazing keyboardist, and I don’t think it detracted from the show in any way.
I also didn't take this photograph of Erlend Øye, and I'm going [...]
