Self-portraits are so depressing to take but I’ve run out of people to shoot. To go along with the “lost generation” theme, it was either this or the photos I took of the people taking photos of the apple store on their iPhones. 25 September, 2011 at 1.06 pm
I struggled to get a decent shot for The Old Man and the Sea. Times have changed since Ernest Hemingway wrote about the struggle between man and nature, humans are now so efficient at benefiting from their natural elements that you don’t have to worry about fishing, gutting, and cooking, let alone the battle between man and beast. I’ve always wanted to go fishing, but thanks to the fishing industry and their irresponsible methods to supply the demand there will probably be nothing left by the time I get around to it. Hong Kong is also one of the worst places to advocate sustainable eating, with the high prestige that accompanies sharks’ fin to the undying obsession with sushi, Hong Kongers seem to have an insatiable appetite that places stomach first and brain last. Thankfully some measures are slowly coming into place such as the trawling ban that was recently introduced thanks to support from WWF. This is just a little reminder of one of the many issues that you can have an impact on easily. For more information check out this film or check out this list of which types of fish to avoid eating.
